Protecting Our Planet

Why We’re Different

A lot of brands talk about performance and sustainability.
Whilst we care about both of the above to our core, we're not here to greenwash.

The outdoor industry is full of “eco” claims slapped on products that still leave lasting a chemical footprint across the mountains. We're not here to call anyone out, but we want to equip you with the knowledge that pushed us into doing it slightly differently to other outerwear brands. We want to produce gear that performs at the highest level, while doing our best to reduce our impact on the environment.

The Secret Sauce - Waterproofing

Nobody is really talking about it, but most snow gear still uses a plastic based DWR coating on their fabric. Referred to as C6 or C8, this is what is being sprayed on the outerwear of most huge brands to make sure the water beads off.

C6 & C8 works well, and we can see why brands go for it as a short-term technical solution. The truth is that these coatings are comprised of long-chain PFC chemicals (forever plastics). They don’t go away. As with any DWR, it eventually wears off your kit, ending up in the snow, in rivers, in wildlife, and in us. Then you're told to respray the stuff to make your kit waterproof again, and the cycle continues. We didn't want to play a part in that.

Any of our waterproof gear is treated with C0 DWR. This is a newer plant-friendly and PFC-free alternative that still beads water but breaks down naturally over time. Whilst it's a higher cost to us, it’s safer for our waterways, our mountains and our community. Like any DWR, it works best with a little care, an occasional reproofing will keep it going season after season. We'd rather you re-proof your pants now and then than ride in something that poisons the snow and contributes to the problem.

Anything else?

Packaging

Your order arrives in 100% recycled outer mailers that you can reuse, and our inner custom frosted bags are made from corn starch (a renewable and plant based material) rather than plastic. they protect your gear without adding plastic to the planet. Unlike plastic, these frosted bags are biodegradable and compostable under the right conditions, breaking down naturally without harming the environment.

Our Promise

We’re not pretending to be perfect, no clothing brand can claim zero impact. Unfortunately due to the nature of manufacturing, only big companies have the financial backing to make groundbreaking moves in sustainability - but we want to get there. We want to keep finding new ways to be better, and we can promise you that every production decision we make is filtered through the same question: is this the best it can be for both performance and the planet?
